It’s All About Art  -- Reflections!

The Reflections Program sponsored by the National PTA board recognizes outstanding student works in a variety of arts. Jamerson PTA is proud to support and promote this program by allowing our students to showcase their talents, while emphasizing the importance of arts in education. Each student may enter original works into the art areas of: Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, and Film/Video Production. There are two grade divisions, Primary (Preschool - Grade 2) and Intermediate (Grades 3-5).

The artwork created is based on a theme. The 2008-2009 theme is:
“WOW". We encourage you to begin working with your child at home. Brainstorm ideas and provide materials that they would need to create their artwork. Give their minds a chance to explore their own creativity. It must be done solely by each student without collaboration from another party.

Entries will be judged on artistic merit, creativity and interpretation of the theme. Every child will receive recognition for their hard work.

Entry forms and rules are available online, as well as in the front office. If you need additional information, you can reach Kim by clicking here.

More information coming soon.

Jamerson PTA wins Best Program Award with "Books to Kids"  --- Great Job Joanna!!! (see below)

Books 4 Kids is a Jamerson Elementary School PTA book recycling program. The mission is to help build home libraries at no real cost to anyone. We know that many families donate wonderful books to charity all of the time. Why not recycle these books within our school?

We started this program at the end of the 2006/07 school year by hosting a 2 day book drive. Families were happy to clear overflowing bookshelves knowing their donations would directly benefit Jamerson students. The book donations came pouring in and haven't stopped!  Due to the popularity of this program, we now keep a permanent donation box in the school office. Every year we host 2 book drives netting 1000's of books. There have been a few external donation sources, however, most books come from Jamerson families and teachers.

We have a school wide Positive Behavior System. Students earn reward cards called “Super Sprockets.” All students are able to earn Sprockets by exhibiting good behavior, and following our school character expectations which are: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe and Be Your Best!

When the store is open, students are permitted to shop after lunch. All books are just 5 Sprockets each with no purchase limit. Money is never exchanged. On average we have sent home over 150 books a week with our students.

The Books 4 Kids program promotes several different goals such as: good behavior, daily reading, recycling, charity, community, and decision making. We are very proud of how this program has evolved. It has surpassed our expectations and we will continue to foster it's growth.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Joanna Pheil
